Political Science Department

The Department of Political science aims to equip student with the depth knowledge and intellectual tools to engage with the local and global level issues, and challenge .provide them with learning experience to understand political phenomena and  increase critical thinking.

  • To teach students Indian constitutional values like democracy, liberty ,equality, justice and secularism.
  • To develop democratic qualities in the students.
  • To familiarise the student with the basic ideas of political science.
  • To help the student understand and relate the concept and facts with the political realities of the country and the world.

UG I Year / Certificate course- FUNDAMENTALS OF POLITICAL SCIENCE

  1. About developments in political philosophy and detailed knowledge about key concepts in political theory. To follow contemporary debates on justice, freedom, democracy. To apply abstract theoretical arguments to practical situations.

  2. About the representation system and working of the institutions in modern democracies. Studying elections and understanding trends. Application of the knowledge to the field of electoral politics.

  3. About environmental issues, Organizations, Treaties and Protocols as well as about politics and environment relationships. To apply environmental regulations to real life problems.

  4. About rural local self-government and administration in India. Understanding the governance and policies in the rural context. To apply the knowledge to grass root level situations.

  5. About evolution of Comparative Politics as a domain, its methods and theories with a focus on politics in different nations in a comparative perspective. To acquire skills to compare politics among nations. To apply the knowledge gained in understanding the politics of different nations and the political trends including area studies.

UG II Year/ (Diploma in POLITICAL THEORY AND PRACTICE)

  1. In the Diploma Course of Second Year we offer to students following Curriculum- About the foundational thinkers and their thought, covering both the classical masters of political thought and major contemporary Western theorists.
  2. Understanding text-context in relationship of political thought and of the contemporary relevance of key philosophical ideas.
  3. Ability to contextualize the concepts and ideas as well as philosophical connections with more specialized domains of Political Science. About various issues and movements in India.
  4. To understand and contextualize issues. To apply the knowledge to objectively assess the movements. About urban local self-government and administration in India.
  5. Understanding the governance and policies in the urban context. To apply the knowledge to grassroots level situations and design alternatives. About controversies regarding Indian traditions and about social movements in colonial and independent India.
  6. To assess strength and weaknesses of policies of social justice. To critically interrogate and research contemporary social movements.

  7. About the Schools of Feminism and role of gender in the participation of women in politics. Awareness of and understanding about the political role of women. To apply the knowledge in doing research as well as for work in NGO sector working on women’s issues.

Programme specific outcomes (PSOs): UG III Year / Bachelor of POLITICAL SCIENCE

In the Degree Course of Third year we offer to students following curriculum:

  1. PSO-1: Of historical origins, key debates and emerging trends in the discipline. Understanding of contemporary international political developments. Awareness about the discipline and the international politics.
  2. PSO-2: About administration of different countries. To understand and compare administration. To apply and contextualize recent administrative and developmental issues in India and other developing countries.
  3. PSO-3: About the multivariate nature of state and sub-state politics. Understanding of the deeper realities and dimensions of regional and sub-regional politics in India. To apply the knowledge to an understanding of state politics.
  4. PSO-4: About the political ideas of Indian thinkers covering both ancient and modern political thinkers from renaissance to modernity. Understanding and contextualizing the ideas to contemporary philosophical and ideological issues relevant to contemporary India realities. Course Title BASIC CONCEPT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE

COURSE OUT COME Understanding politics is integral and indispensable for a comprehensive and critical study of political science. The course is designed to train a student in the foundational issues of political science, which is relevant for any depth study and research.

B.A. 2nd semester

Course Title Awareness with Civic Rights (Minor Elective)

Course Outcomes: This paper intends to provide; the basic digital and legal awareness. The student can leverage this in the job market. To make aware the students of their basic legal rights which would help them to stand up and help others.

B.A. 2nd semester

Course Title: Comparative Political Systems: Major Constitutions of the World

Course Outcomes: Politics is the mirror of the society. This paper will help the student in furthering his understanding of the world around. Comparison is widely used method of scientific knowledge This would help to critical analysis.

B.A. 3rd semester

Course Title: Foundations of Western Political thought

Course Outcomes: This course the ancient and modern political thinking in the West. This would help to understand the idea of state, rights, liberty, equality, and justice which have evolved over a period of time.

B.A. 4th semester

Course Title: Nationalism in India (Minor Elective)

Course Outcomes: Indian nationalism developed as a concept during the Indian Independence movement which campaigned from British rule. Indian nationalism is an instance of territorial nationalism, which is inclusive of all opt the people of India, despite their ethnic, linguistic and religious backgrounds. It continues to strongly influence the politics of India and reflects an opposition to the sectarian strands of Hindu nationalism and Muslim nationalism.

B.A. 4th semester

Course Title: Indian Political System

Course Outcome: Acquaintance to Indian National Movement & Constitution is indispensable for a student to make a sense of Indian Political System. The course is designed to provide an overview of Indian Freedom Struggle and key concepts of the Indian constitution to the student, which would evolve him into a conscientious citizen.

B. A. 5th semester

 Course Title: Major Theories of International Politics (paper 1)

Course Outcomes: This course seeks to equip students the basic tools for understanding International relations. It also introduces major events and developments that have shaped the contemporary international system. It aims to capture the changing dynamics of the international politics by taking up burning and relevant issues which have potential to alter its contours.

Course Title: Elements of Public Administration (paper 2 )

Course Outcomes: Administration being essential to every organization, this course aims to acquaint a student with fundamentals of public administration too. This would provide him an insight regarding the principles of administration in general and help him to bring out the best from existing set up. This would help him to prepare for administrative examinations too.

Course Title: PROJECT WORK (1)

Course Outcomes This paper intends to develop a comprehensive insight in the students so that given an opportunity they can initiate a minor research proposal or attempt a minor dissertation on their area of interest.

B.A. 6th Sem:

Course Title: Contemporary Issues in International Politics (paper 1)

Course Outcomes: This course seeks to equip students the basic tools for understanding International relations. It also introduces major events and developments that have shaped the contemporary international system. It aims to capture the changing dynamics of the international politics by taking up burning and relevant issues which have potential to alter its contours.

Course Title: Foundations of Indian Political Thought (paper 2)

Course Outcomes: This course is to familiarize the students with the larger political and social thinking and ideas in Ancient, medieval and Modern India. Designed in a way to help students engage with various ideological dispensations that came to shape the normative thinking on India.

Course Title: PROJECT WORK (2)

Course Outcomes This paper intends to develop a comprehensive insight in the students so that given an opportunity they can initiate a minor research proposal or attempt a minor dissertation on their area of interest.
