Swargiya Chandra Singh Shahi Government Post Graduate College, Kapkote is located in district Bageshwar of Uttarakhand. The college is situated at village Ason, almost at a distance of 23 Km ahead of district headquarter Bageshwar. Located in the valley at the bank of sacred river Saryu with a beautiful view of Himalayas, the college is at a distance of around 60 Km from Pindari Glacier. The latitudinal position of the college is 29.93 north latitude and 79.88 east longitude.
The college was established as an Undergraduate college in 2005 Government vide G.O. No. 304/XXIV/2005 dated 16th November 2005 and is recognized by UGC under section 2(f) of the U.G.C. Act, 1956. In 2015 the college was renamed as Swargiya Chandra Singh Shahi Government Degree College Kapkote after the name of freedom fighter Late Mr. Chandra Singh Shahi who contributed significantly during Indian freedom movement and promoted education in the area. The college was upgraded as Post Graduate college in 2021 vide G.O. No. 9955XXIV-C-2/2021/ (06) 2021 dated 14th October 2021 and presently offers U.G. course in ten subjects (Hindi, English, Sanskrit, and P.G. course in five subjects i.e., Hindi, Sanskrit, English, Drawing & Painting and Home Science. The posts for faculty of science at undergraduate level have been approved in six subjects i.e., Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology and Botany vide G.O. no. 167129/XXIV-C-2/2023/ई -52640, dated 06th November 2023.
Equipped with modern smart classrooms, computer lab, a comprehensive library with a reading room provides an ample opportunity for effective teaching learning. Extension activities under NCC, NSS, cultural activities, career counselling, sports and other extracurricular activities are conducted which offer an inspiring environment for intellectual growth and holistic development of students.
Since its inception the college was affiliated to Kumaun University Nainital and got affiliated to Soban Singh Jeena University Almora with effect from the session 2020-2021. The rules/orders/instructions issued from time to time by the University and Government of Uttarakhand, Directorate of Higher Education, Haldwani, Nainital, Uttarakhand are effective for admission course, examination and discipline in the college.
